7. Farmer's Market Books

  1. Cash Register + Farmer's Market Pretend Play - Nametags, Play Money, Receipt & Expo Marker found in your kit! Include a cash register for a realistic element to your child's pretend play! Your child can choose which nametag to wear - shopper or farmer. Engage in pretend farmer's market play and create receipts, purchase items, pay with play money, and ask about the fruits and vegetables your farmer has in stock!

  2. Fruits and Vegetables + Reusable Bags (or tote in kit) - Your child can buy, sell, or sort items on their play shelf! My kiddo put all the green fruits/vegetables in one bin, and all the rest in the other (also why I don't yet have my fruits and vegetables labels hung on the shelf!) Instead we used the labels on the floor to sort items. The clear bins are from the dollar store!

  3. Flowers - faux flowers add color and another element to your shelf! We got ours at the dollar store!

  4. Vegetable Puzzles (or number puzzles in kit)

  5. Fine Motor Garden OR Sensory Garden in Kit. We also practiced making patterns with our flowers in the fine motor garden!

  6. Duplo Fruit and Vegetable Legos (or other fruit and vegetable colored Legos)

More Play and Activity Recommendations

  • Visit the grocery store and pick out a new fruit or vegetable to try! Had anyone else not had a dragon fruit before? Ha!

  • Take a trip to the farmer's market or visit a community garden! To extend the fun, make a scavenger hunt for your visit! Your scavenger hunt could be to search for the rainbow, things that start with the first letter of your child's name, etc.

  • Rainbow Snack plate - try and make a rainbow with food for a healthy and delicious snack! Discuss with your child the benefits of each color. Red foods: heart health. Orange foods: healthy eyes. Yellow foods: heal our bodies. Green foods: fight germs. Blue + Purple foods: super brain power! White foods: quick energy.

  • Food Sensory Fun - Now I know we don't normally encourage our kiddos to play with food, but hear me out! Snap asparagus stalks to cook, play with squash insides, or smush some tomatoes to make a sauce!

  • Play-doh - create fruit, vegetables, or a garden, using play-doh and tools.

  • Natural Paint Brush Activity - use leftover vegetables, herbs, or fruits to paint! Cut an apple in half for a stamp, use lettuce as a paint brush, or broccoli for a cool pattern paint!
